Vision & principles
BurgerEerst is a citizen initiative. We stand for basic security, fair burdens, and policy that works in real life.

1. People first
Policy should start with everyday life: housing, healthcare, safety and affordability.
If rules or cuts push people into hardship, that’s not ‘tough’ policy — it’s bad design.
2. A fair distribution of burdens
Those with little cannot carry even more. Burdens must be shared fairly and remain workable.
That means: no stacking of cost increases and no poverty used as a policy tool.
3. Housing & capacity
The housing crisis demands speed: building, mobility in the market and clear priorities.
Policy on intake and public services must stay aligned with capacity. Without grip, solidarity erodes.
We also argue for converting long-term vacant or underused buildings (such as offices, former care facilities, or other properties) into apartments and studios wherever possible, instead of leaving them empty for years or demolishing them without need.
Status holders should no longer receive priority access to social housing. Allocation must be fair, transparent and predictable, prioritising people who have lived, worked and contributed here for years.
4. Democracy without shortcuts
Major decisions require explanation, debate and public support — not just press conferences.
We advocate transparency, clear goals and measurable outcomes.
- • Not a political party and not affiliated with any party.
- • Not a call for hate or exclusion of groups.
- • Not a single-issue movement: we focus on the connection between basic security, housing and democracy.
