NEXIT
We advocate for a NEXIT: the Netherlands should regain full control over its own course. At the same time, this position is separate from the petition.
The petition on the homepage is about the government’s current course and domestic measures. You can sign the petition without supporting this NEXIT position.
Why NEXIT?
The European Union increasingly influences legislation, migration/asylum frameworks, fiscal rules and oversight.
We believe democratic control has moved too far away. If policy fails, the Netherlands must be able to adjust — without endless obligations or compromises.
Sovereignty & democracy
Decision-making should remain close to citizens through the national parliament. When core choices are structurally out of reach, a democratic deficit grows.
A NEXIT is, for us, a route to bring responsibility back to the Netherlands: choices, consequences and adjustment in one line.
Practical points (what we want to examine/arrange)
- Make Dutch law and border policy leading again, while cooperating where it makes sense.
- Continue trade and cooperation through treaties, as many countries do.
- A clear transition plan for businesses, workers and regulation.
- A fact-based debate including costs, benefits and alternatives.
What’s next?
We want this topic to stop being taboo. At minimum: a serious national debate and democratic input on the relationship with the EU.
Not with slogans, but with an actionable plan.
5. Migration and national control
For many citizens, migration is the system’s stress test: housing, healthcare, schools and enforcement all have limits.
When inflows consistently exceed capacity, pressure rises and public support erodes. Control matters: fast procedures, clear criteria, and consistent enforcement.
- Match inflows to housing and public capacity
- Faster decisions: those eligible stay; those not eligible return
- Fair responsibility-sharing; avoid permanent emergency housing as the norm
6. Democratic deficit
A recurring criticism is that major decisions are moving further away from citizens.
BurgerEerst wants policy to be more directly accountable to Dutch voters.
- Greater transparency in decision-making and negotiations
- Less power for unelected institutions
- Clear mandates for international agreements
7. Brexit: lessons and realism
Brexit shows leaving is possible, but preparation is essential.
The UK regained policy space, but also faced friction during transition. The lesson: facts, scenarios and a plan — not slogans.
